Limerick Diocesan Annual Pilgrimage to Knock

Each year, the Diocese of Limerick makes a special pilgrimage to Knock Shrine, Ireland’s International Eucharistic and Marian Shrine. This annual gathering is a cherished moment in our diocesan calendar, a day of prayer, thanksgiving, and community as we come together in faith at this sacred place.

    July 25th, 2026

Knock Shrine continues to be a beacon of faith for Ireland and beyond. As a Diocese, we are privileged to gather there each year, bringing with us the prayers, intentions, and hopes of the people of Limerick.

The date of the Limerick Diocesan pilgrimage to Knock this year is July 25th, 2026

    The Story of Knock

On the evening of 21st August 1879, fifteen people in the village of Knock witnessed an extraordinary apparition at the gable wall of the parish church. They reported seeing:

    • The Blessed Virgin Mary
    • St Joseph
    • St John the Evangelist
    • An altar with a Lamb and a Cross

This silent apparition lasted for approximately two hours in heavy rain, yet the witnesses remained dry as they prayed. Since then, Knock has become a place of deep devotion and pilgrimage, welcoming over one million visitors each year.

    Our Diocesan Pilgrimage

The Limerick Diocesan Pilgrimage to Knock offers an opportunity for individuals, families, and parish groups to take part in a day centred on:

    • Celebration of the Eucharist
    • The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick
    • The Rosary
    • Quiet prayer at the Apparition Chapel
    • Personal intentions placed before Our Lady of Knock

Pilgrims have time to visit the Parish Church and Apparition Chapel, light candles, spend time in the Basilica, and reflect in the peaceful grounds of the Shrine.

    A Day for Everyone

    Our annual pilgrimage welcomes:

    • Parish groups
    • Families and individuals
    • The sick and assisted pilgrims
    • Young people and youth groups
    • Prayer and pastoral ministry groups

For many, Knock is a place of comfort, healing, and renewed hope. It is also a powerful reminder of Ireland’s rich faith heritage and the strength of prayer shared in community.
